Mashtca

Cooking on our own!

February 29, 2016
Well, Hermana Julia (awesome member) made me eat mashtca this week which is a dirt like meal of wheat that you eat with a little bit of sugar and it was DELICIOUS. And not much else happened this week haha...

I picked up something and had a fever the beginning of the week, which was fun, but am feeling good now!

We had an awesome district meeting in which we did Lehi’s dream with our companions and it was really fun and took on a whole other meaning for me! We really are the ones assigned to help people find and stay on the rod. Gave me the motivation I was needing!

Also, My companion Hermana Palomino is awesome! She lived in Lima for 5 years and is SOOOOO SMART. One day she told me the whole history of Peru and the legends and now I know why all the street names have the name they do! Super fun.

Also our pensionista went on vacation to Trujillo for a few days, so we cooked! SOO YUMMY. Oatmeal, grilled cheese, super fun. But I realized I also don’t really know how to cook, haha.

BEST PART OF THE WEEK was my old pensionista Hermana Amelia came to visit me with her family at church! I cried... I love that family SOOO MUCH. And it was so good to see them.

Also, we had a FHE with a convert who is now inactive and brought the whole consejo over and did a testimony meeting with her, it was so awesome. I was so strengthened to hear the testimonies of these humble members who have so little but give so much to the church.

All in all, we are finding new people and seeing lots of little miracles. I am trying to finish the Book of Mormon in Spanish before I come home, and honestly, reading it in my spare time and for studies has been the greatest help and really "got me through" this week. There is POWER in that book and I love sharing that with all the people we teach. The examples to me helped me realize and feel once again how important this work is and the joy that comes from knowing Christ more, and helping others to know Him more.

It is all true.
Thanks for all of your love and support! Have a great Leap day!

Hawaii.. Canada.... Peru.... companions

Hermana Wood

February 22, 2016
Well, this week has been crazy! Lots of changes and lots of cool things going on.

So first off we had transfers! My third emergency transfer, but it’s always what needs to happen! It was so sad to leave Hermana Wood, she was just "that companion" that you love haha....

We had a multizona on Thursday and at lunch president pulled us aside and said we had cambios. Hermana Wood went to open an area in Chiclayo and finish a training, and I am with Hermana Palomino! She has 7 months and is from Peru... Via Rica? The district of Janin.... something like that, THE JUNGLE. However she studied in Lima for a couple years so she is pretty civilized. I like her lots!

We also had an intercambio and I was with Hermana Christensen who is from HAWAII! So that was sick. She is so awesome and seriously such an amazing missionary. I learned so much from her and we also had a ton of fun!

And, I got to see Hermana Smith! I love her SOOOO MUCH. It was probably the last time I would see her, so that was a little sad.

Looking at what happened... not a lot of good news. The hardest part of the week was Lesli and Rola broke up with us. Hard. Rola said she didn’t believe in the Book of Mormon and Lesli said she didn’t have any interest and would maybe look into after she graduated, but not right now. It was like 180 turn and more! We are going to see what happened and keep trying, but that was pretty hard. All happens for a reason I guess!

On Sunday I was feeling kind of... melancholy haha. I just felt like I was running out of time and hadn’t done a whole lot to help the Lord. Satan. However we went by the church with a member to grab her hymnbook, and they were having a conference for all of the recent converts and guess who I saw, HNA WENDY! My convert! I just made eye contact and waved through the window, but it was such a miracle to see her for the first time in almost a year!

I realized how very important each of God’s children are, and it doesn’t matter if its 1 or 1 million, He just wants us to help them.

Yesterday in church a hermana talked about prayer, and kept saying the Lord just wants us to trust! It really hit me how it’s almost like He is the one driving, and we can be judgmental about every turn, how fast He is going, etc. etc. or we can just TRUST that He is a good driver.

I know that He has a plan for each of us and knows exactly what He is doing, and most the time begs us to trust Him through prayer.

Anyhow, Love you all and hope all is well!

Just run with the wind....

Liduvina, love her!

February 15, 2016
Well, this week was a little bit challenging. Hermana Wood has formed a slogan from Ether 6:8.... the wind or trials are what push the Jaredites to the promised land, so we are just running with the wind whenever the trials and hard things come..... kind of a windy week haha.... but all for a reason I guess.
So Liduvina tried to turn in her papers to get married and they said that on their identification one of them was put as conviviente and the other was single, so because of the that they couldn't get married, both IDs have to say single..... kind of a really dumb reason, so we have been trying to talk with them and see if there is any way they can change that easily without having to see a judge who are all on vacation right now..... But I guess its for a reason. She just cried and cried as she told us because she wanted to get baptized so bad and that she couldn't, but I know that the Lord has a plan for her...
And Rola and Lesli are doing awesome, they are just going to Lima for 2 weeks and didn't tell us, so we will have to wait a little bit for them to get baptized as well, which is okay, I know that they will do it.
Some other highlights of the week was that ALL of La Victoria had no water haha.... so for 3 days they sent in trucks and people would fill up everything they had with water to save it for the next day. It was kind of like the hunger games, people running through the streets and yelling at the trucks to give them water, luckily our dueños got some for us so we could shower haha...
Also, there is an air force base right by our area and this week they have been doing a lot of practices with fighter jets and bombers which was SO COOL. Watching some of them lift off was insane.... and also made the hunger game feeling real haha..
We are loving the sea food and this week ate octopus and tollo (baby shark) which was SOOOO YUMMY.
I think the best part of the week was I wanted so bad to give a present I made for hermana smith for her birthday, but the way things were panning out I wouldn't be able to get it through the office and to her on time. I prayed, and we called the assistants to see if I had a package and hermana wood did, so we went to the office and Hermana Smith was there! It was so fun to see her and catch up with her, I LOVE HER SO MUCH! It just helped me realize once again how important our desires are to our heavenly father and that he answers prayers, a lot of times better that we could imagine.
All in all I have learned a lot and am grateful for the wind, even when sometimes it's not what I was planning on, but that it all is working together to point the investigators and me to the place we need to be.
Love you all and hope you have a great week!

It's not about you

February 8, 2016
Well, it was awesome. Just a great week. The title is from the new youth album the church came out with, there is a song called it’s not about you from Elder Renlund’s talk that a I just love. It seems to put into a nutshell what I am just recently learning as a missionary. That none of this was ever about me, but is all about the people we serve.

Highlights....
We were out of electricity and water almost all week, so we did a lot of showering with buckets and studying on the floor because of the heat. It was a fun camping week haha...

We had our leadership meeting with president which was AWESOME. The best part was we got homemade cookies from Hermana Williams and hamburgers from chilis...... after 15 months of not eating bacon it was pretty dang good.

After that meeting though, there is this girl named Angelica that I was in her ward in Jaen, then in Imperio, and now she is in my ward again! We keep following each other. Her mom is active but she married a non member and isn’t married, so we are working with her. Anyhow... she called to see if the elders could give her uncle a blessing, but I forgot about it and she called to tell me he had passed away. I started to feel bad and mad at myself for not trying harder, but then the spirit brought me a calm feeling that is was supposed to happen. She said we couldn’t come visit her, but gave us the street of her new apt.

Later that day I felt like we should visit her, even though we didn’t know where she lived, so we just prayed, looked at the houses, knocked on one, then asked a guy if he knew Angelica and he said that she lived right there! So cool how the spirit guides. Anyways, we talked to her and tried to comfort her a little more and helped her out a little bit, and she felt a lot better.

Also, Liduvina’s papers came so she is getting married on the 27th and baptized on the 5th of March!! WAHOO! On to wedding plans haha...

The best part of the week though was fasting. We fasted that we could put a date with Rola and Lesli, a grandma and granddaughter that we are teaching, that are awesome, but won’t accept a date to get baptized. We fasted, then Sunday went to get them for church haha.... on the moto there there wasn’t room in the back so I sat on this sketchy seat on the front and held on to the top... that was fun. Anyways, we get to church and President’s car was there.... that’s always a good sign.

But it was amazing. They loved church, all of the testimonies, classes, seemed just perfect for them! President and Hermana Williams even talked to them personally and sat down with them and testified more to them of the truth. SWEET. Anyways, we went to a cita later that day, asked how church was, asked if they had prayed about the Book of Mormon and they had and said they received their answer at church and knew it was true! I could barely get the baptismal invite out before they accepted. They are also getting baptized March 5th....  They are SO EXCITED! They asked what clothes they needed to wear... I said we would get all that figured out.

It was probably one of my favorite moments I have ever had on the mission. It just touched my heart and strengthened my testimony of fasting and prayer, and the means that the Lord provides to help his children.

I love this gospel and know it is true with all that I am. SO GRATEFUL for the chance to serve and get to know my Savior more.

Love you all, thanks for all you do.
